In Upstate New York, the District Attorney Believes That Andrew Cuomo’s Absence From Criminal Charges Is “Not an Exoneration.”

There will be no criminal charges brought against former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo by the Oswego County District Attorney’s Office because the decision is “not an exoneration,” but rather a limitation of the law.

New York Attorney General Letitia James stated in a report last year that Virginia Limmiatis accused Cuomo of touching her inappropriately during a conservation event in upstate New York in 2017.

Oswego County District Attorney Gregory Oakes said Monday that Limmiatis’ version of events was “reliable and reasonable,” but that there was not enough legal basis for prosecution.

Oakes stated in a statement that New York’s current sex offence statutes “fail to hold perpetrators accountable and fail to appropriately protect victims”.
For victims of sexual assault and harassment in this state, “the law must be amended and reformed so that it reflects the lived experiences of those who have been abused and harassed,” says the lawmaker.

Cuomo met Limmiatis at a 2017 event wearing a T-shirt with the name of the energy business she worked for across her chest, according to the attorney general’s investigation.
Cuomo allegedly ran his fingers across her chest while yelling out the name of the company he was working for.

‘I’m going to pretend I saw a spider on your shoulder,’ the Governor went in close to Ms. Limmiatis’ cheek and muttered before brushing his palm in the space between her shoulder and breasts.
