Replacing ceiling fan - are these wires safe?

I am replacing a ceiling fan myself for the first time in our home and when I removed the old fan I was met with wiring that doesn't look great. Our house was built in the 50s so maybe this is typical but as a complete novice this doesn't look great but I don't know what I don't know. If I wire up the new fan with what you see here in the electrical box am I taking any risks? This is in our newborn's room so I will eat the cost for an electrician for this small job if needed - or would a rewiring be necessary? Thanks for any guidance here!
