Sara Gilbert and Her Ex-wife, With Whom She Had Been Married for Six Years and They Were Still in Love, Divorced | Complete Info
Sara Gilbert spent years on “Roseanne” portraying a straight girl and eventually a woman. However, she eventually came out as a lesbian and married Linda Perry, although the marriage ended in divorce.
Sara Gilbert was born Sara Rebecca Abeles on January 29, 1975, at St. John’s Hospital and Health Center in Santa Monica, California. She developed an interest in acting after watching her half-sister, Melissa Gilbert, earn a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame when she was six years old.
Sara Gilbert adopted the Gilbert family name in 1984 after appearing in multiple advertisements and a role in the film “Calamity Jane.” She eventually achieved stardom in 1988 with a part on “Roseanne” as supposedly straight girl Darlene Conner.
Conner dated Johnny Galecki’s character and even married him on the show, which she appeared in for nine years. Apart from the comedy, Sara voiced Laura Powers in 1989’s “The Simpsons.”
She also acted in various films, including “Sudie and Simpson” in 1990, “Poison Ivy” in 1992, and “Light It Up” in 1999. Later in her career, she appeared in the programs “Atypical” and the “Roseanne” reboot, “The Conners,” as well as co-hosting “The Talk” for several years.
Awareness of Her Sexuality
Sara was generally believed to be straight until she came out as gay. In September 2013, during an emotionally charged broadcast of “The Talk,” the co-hosts revealed their secrets for the segment.
Sara mentioned how she dated Galecki briefly as a youngster. She said that she thought he was cute and had a crush on him before they began dating, but that things changed once they began dating, as she stated:
Sara assumed Galecki would feel horrible about her emotions and began taking it personally due to his ignorance of what was happening. She eventually confided in him that she felt it was related to her sexuality, and her lover was gracious in his response.
In July 2010, the actress announced her sexual orientation as a lesbian during the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour in Los Angeles. Sara stated on “The Talk” that being out was novel.
She added that she was not an expert on the subject and had not conducted an analysis of her sexuality while living her life. The actress stated that if her coming out was not a problem, she intended to continue working on the talk show and acting.
She added that she never considered herself to be in or out of anything because she was simply who she was. Sara stated when pertinent issues arose; she was willing to address them at the appropriate time.
Why Was the Partner’s Name Removed?
CBS released a press statement promoting the chat show a week before Sara’s debut, in which they listed the other hosts’ husbands. Strangely, when Sara was named, just her children were mentioned.
The television personality claimed that her then-girlfriend, Allison Adler, was not mentioned because she specifically requested that CBS refrain from doing so. Sara believed the talk program was primarily about mom and parenting, rather than their personal lives.
She stated that now that she had come out, she would speak more openly about her personal life. The singer was adamant about not announcing her sexuality via a CBS news release, stating that it was impersonal and that she preferred to do so privately.
Getting to Know Her Wife
Linda Perry told E! News in January 2012 that it was an honor to be alongside Sara. She admitted that she had not anticipated dating the actress, but they hit it off immediately upon meeting.
The singer-songwriter highlighted how they were similar yet distinct, which worked. Sara and Perry had been dating for eight months and we’re about to embark on their ninth, although they were not living together at the time.
The former frontwoman of 4 Non-Blondes is now a producer. She has also contributed to the music for a Broadway musical based on Gus Van Sant’s 1995 film “To Die For.”
Proposal of Perry
Sara said on “The Talk” in April 2013 how Perry stunned her with a romantic proposal during a picnic in the park. While the couple was eating, a guy picked up his guitar and began playing the couple’s song.
That struck the actress as strange, but she welcomed it until the song concluded, at which point Perry announced she would ask the musician to play another song they knew. Surprisingly, the artist was familiar with the song.
Suddenly, other picnickers began removing string instruments from beneath their blankets and making their way over to Sara and Perry, where they played the Cure’s “Love Song.” Perry then whipped out T-shirts that read, “Will you marry me?”
After that, the artist presented the talk show host with a ring. Perry motioned Sara to turn around, only to discover their mothers and a couple of friends standing nearby. Then another guy approaches and introduces himself as John Waite, who immediately begins playing “Missing You.”
After an 11-month engagement, the couple married on March 30, 2014. The wedding took place at Malibu’s One Gun Ranch, beginning with a cocktail reception and including a vegan buffet.
Sara was taken aback at the ceremony when her fiancée took the stage and sang “Love” by John Lennon. The couple was married by someone who was flown in at the last minute after the official officiant became ill that morning and was unable to make it.
Sara filed for legal separation from her marriage after five years on December 27, 2019. She identified their separation date as August 13, 2019, and cited irreconcilable differences as the cause of their breakup.
Perry spoke to Page Six about her relationship with Sara in January 2020 at the Hollywood Palladium’s Art of Elysium Gala. The producer, speaking candidly about her relationship, stated:
The singer stated that they had two lovely children together, one of which was Rhodes Emilio Gilbert-Perry, who was born in 2015, and that their journey was far from over. Perry sensed that their path together had taken a detour.
Divorce and Custody of Children
On October 15, 2021, two years after the couple separated, the divorce was finalized. Both celebrities were granted joint legal custody of their son and were required to co-parent him.
About Son’s and Sara’s and Linda’s Current Relationship
Rhodes was born on February 28, 2015, and a photo of the boy was shared with the audience on an episode of “The Talk.” Apart from Rhodes, Sara has two more children with her former Alison Adler: Levi and Sawyer.
Sara uploaded another image of her newborn daughter snoozing on Instagram in April 2015. In September 2020, she released another sleeping snapshot of a much older Rhodes.
Perry and Sara, on the other hand, were spotted in Los Angeles in May 2020 on an expedition with their kid. It appeared as though the former couple was quarantining themselves against the epidemic together.
