Taiwan ‘Military Conflict’, Says China’s Envoy to the United States |Latest Updates
This “destabilizing, risks miscalculation and threatens regional peace and stability,” the State Department said in a statement to The Post on Monday. It claimed it was “concerned” by the PRC’s provocative military operations near Taiwan.
“The United States’ commitment to Taiwan is rock solid and contributes to the maintenance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and within the region,” the department continued. “We will continue to stand with friends and allies to achieve our common prosperity, security, and values. We will continue to expand our connections with democratic Taiwan.”
Last week, Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas), the ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told reporters he believes China will launch an invasion of Taiwan soon after the Winter Olympics in Beijing, which begin next Friday.

The ambassador spoke with NPR one-on-one for the first time since he took up residence in Washington, DC, in July, and discussed the region’s escalating tensions and the impending Olympics.

Qin said that China’s relationship with the US “is the most important,” despite growing tensions after Washington’s decision to take part in a diplomatic boycott of the games in protest of human rights abuses, most notably genocidal actions against Uyghur Muslims and in the northwest province of Xinjiang.
“The true condition is that Uyghur people as other ethnic groups of people have a good life,” he claimed. “The Chinese constitution ensures that they have the freedoms and rights that they possess. They are a part of the Chinese national family. This co-called genocide or forced labor – these are enormous lies of the century. There is absolutely no genocide.”
