There will be no walk-in vaccination clinic or distribution of COVID-19 test kits at 1001 Ace Drive in Berea, Kentucky on Thursday, February 3, 2022, owing to bad weather conditions. Event rescheduling information will be released at a later time.

At the Madison County Health Department on Tuesday morning, individuals waited patiently in line for a free Covid-19 test kit. After 45 minutes, the clinic had to turn individuals away since they couldn’t fit any more people in. Students from Eastern Kentucky University who were helping out with the shift told ABC 36 that the most difficult part was the cost of the testing. A limited number of covid-testing kits are available online for $20 – $30, occasionally much more. Health experts say the shortage is understandable given the extreme cold we’ve been experiencing.

A Clinical Faculty member at Eastern Kentucky University, Sharonda Rose, explains that “with the variation and with flu and with our typical seasonal allergies it is crucial for individuals to recognize whether it’s covid and if there’s that need to quarantine.”

Free blood pressure checks, HIV and hepatitis C testing, and free Narcan were among the additional services provided by the clinic. The free kit giveaway will be repeated on Thursday, so if you missed it the first time around, don’t worry. Berea will host a second free testing kit distribution event.
