The third stimulus payment, formally known as an economic impact payment, was part of the American Rescue Plan, which was implemented in March 2021. Those who qualified for payments received up to $1,400, and married couples filing jointly received up to $2,800. The IRS reported that as of late July 2021, it had made over 171 million payments.
Taxpayers have been warned about scams since the first stimulus checks were distributed. Many viewers have also emailed VERIFY to inquire about the possibility of the fourth round of payments.
