Update on the Stimulus Check: The petition for the Fourth Stimulus Check has now received more than 3 million signatures.

When the COVID-19 pandemic initially struck, lawmakers acted rapidly. Two stimulus checks were granted on a bipartisan basis under the Trump administration. In March 2021, the Biden government issued the third check, depositing $1,400 per eligible adult and dependent into the bank accounts of qualifying Americans.

However, many Americans believe that additional assistance is required. A Change.org petition that has gathered more than 3 million signatures demonstrates the enormous need for a fourth stimulus check.

Millions of Americans are clamouring for a fourth stimulus package.

“I’m calling on Congress to support families with a $2,000 payment for adults and a $1,000 payment for kids immediately, and continuing regular checks throughout the duration of the crisis,” Stephanie, a Denver Colorado restaurant owner, said on Change.org.

Despite the fact that the petition has been up for well over a year, people from all over the country have continued to sign it. In actuality, as of January 17, 2022, it had been signed by 3,017,183 persons. This covers citizens from every state in the United States.

Some of the reasons for the petition’s continued popularity were explained in a recent update. According to the update, “Our country is still in dire straits. Many Americans have yet to benefit from the recovery; the genuine unemployment rate for low-wage employees is estimated to be over 20%, and many people are saddled with significant bills from the previous year for items like utilities, rent, and childcare. These are all reasons why checks should be aimed at people who are still struggling, and Congress should learn from the previous year’s mistakes.”

Will legislators pay attention to the warning?

The petition requesting a fourth stimulus check on Change.org has amassed a large number of signatures. Not only is it unusual for a petition to get so many signatures, but it’s also unusual for one to receive such long-term attention. Nonetheless, Americans around the country continue to sign it in an attempt to be heard.

Despite the fact that there is a strong demand for another payment, lawmakers are unlikely to proceed with a fourth check, let alone monthly payments as demanded.

In fact, Congress has struggled to achieve an agreement on another form of stimulus, the enlarged Child Tax Credit, in recent months. From July through December 2021, this credit paid parents with monthly payments of $250 or $300 per kid, but it was allowed to expire after that.

In reality, Democrats were the only ones who voted for the most current stimulus plan, which was put into law in March 2021. Any extra relief would very certainly have to be passed on a bipartisan basis, with every Democrat in the Senate voting in favour.

As the Change.org petition urges, Republicans would almost certainly filibuster any bill providing the fourth check or authorising continuous payments. A filibuster would block the bill’s advancement unless Democrats were able to assemble 60 votes to move it forward.

Democrats might get around the filibuster by using the reconciliation procedure, which permits bills to pass with just 51 votes. However, they only have 50 senators who are Democrats’ caucus members, and the vice president is available to break ties in the 50-50 senate. More moderate Democratic senators, who have voted against raising the Child Tax Credit, are unlikely to support a bill that includes a fourth check or regular payments.
