Update on the Stimulus: the $2,000 Monthly Checks Petition Has Reached a Significant Milestone in Terms of Signatures.
More than 3 million individuals have signed a Change.org petition demanding that the federal government provide adults with $2,000 in monthly stimulus payments and children with $1,000 in monthly stimulus payments.
One petition is addressed to Congress and is titled “$2000/month to every American #moneyforthepeople #covid19.”
The petition had a 3 million signature goal at first, however, it was enlarged to bring greater awareness about the issue.
According to the website, if the petition now receives 4.5 million signatures, it will “become one of the top signed on Change.org.”
“Our country is still in dire straits. Many Americans have yet to benefit from the recovery — the genuine unemployment rate for low-wage employees is estimated to be over 20%, and many people are saddled with significant bills from last year for things like utilities, rent, and child care, according to the petition.
“In order to keep our heads above water, we need rapid checks and ongoing payments.” “Congress must ensure that we are not financially wrecked as a result of doing our part to keep the country healthy,” Stephanie Bonin’s petition concluded.
Despite the petition’s milestone number of signatures, the administration’s focus on “Build Back Better” makes it unlikely that Congress or the White House will release a fourth stimulus check.
Three rounds of stimulus payments have been made by the federal government. In March 2020, during the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, the first payment was made, with qualified individuals receiving up to $1,200.
The second check, worth $600, arrived in December 2020, and the third set of payments, worth up to $1,400, was distributed in March 2021.
