Woman Admitted Stealing Father’s Social Security Payouts | Be on Guard!
On Monday, United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung said that a resident of Erie in Pennsylvania had entered a guilty plea in federal court to an allegation that she had stolen government property.

During a hearing on Wednesday, February 6, before United States District Judge Susan Paradise Baxter, Helen Barber, 51, of Erie, Pennsylvania, entered a plea of guilty to a single count.
Aside from the fact that Barber received $127,636 in Old-Age and Survivor’s Disability Insurance benefits from the United States Social Security Administration between January 1, 2007 and August 2, 2019, the court was also informed that Barber received these benefits despite the fact that she was aware that she was not entitled to them.
She had previously served as a representative payee for her father before to his death in December 2006, but she forgot to notify the Social Security Administration of this fact, and she continued to receive and spend the benefits that were intended for her father until he died in January 2007.
Judge Baxter set the date for the sentence hearing for May 20, 2022, at 1:30 p.m.
If convicted, you could face a term of up to ten years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or a combination of the two punishments.
